Art Enns, POGA President, has been featured in an article on farms.com in recognition of his fundraising efforts.

Enns donated the proceeds from his 2017 canola crop to the Manyinga Project, an initiative that funds two schools for orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia.

A professor of food and human nutrition at Newcastle University says eating a bowl of oatmeal every day can have a positive effect on your health.

A bowl of oatmeal contains more fibre than a slice of whole wheat bread, is low in fat, contains virtually no sugar and also has a number of minerals like manganese, copper, iron and B vitamins.

Oats contain high amounts of soluble fibre, which gives you a satisfied, full feeling after eating. The beta glucans in oats form acids, which work on the DNA of cells in the colon and can have an anti-cancer effect.

The Donnelly family from County Armagh in Northern Ireland says a regular diet of oatmeal has contributed to their long lives. The 13 siblings received the Guinness World Record for being the oldest family in the world, achieving a combined age of 1,075 years.

According to The Independent, the family grew up on a farm and had a diet of locally-sourced ingredients, which included free-range pigs and chickens as well as vegetables from their garden. The siblings regularly ate oatmeal before bed and then first thing the following morning, which they say contributed to their long lives and good health.
