Promoting Canadian Oats

Canadian farmers were expected to increase acres planted to oats by 12% to 13% from 2016, according to Randy Strychar, president of Ag Commodity Research and Shawna Mathieson, executive director of Prairie Oat Growers Association.

Both Strychar and Mathieson provided their forecasts during the North American Millers' Association (NAMA) spring conference on March 12. The expense in oat acres was expected to come at the expense of spring wheat. Strychar forecast a 13% increase in acres, and Mathieson forecast a 12% increase.
